Government Contracting 2007  (LexisNexis)

You will no doubt be aware of recent events that have captured the media’s attention regarding government contracts. These have only highlighted the need for those working in this area to keep up-to-date with best practice in drafting and managing robust contracts which are reflective of and responsive to the specific imperatives of the public sector.

We are delighted to bring you our Government Contracting 2007 conference. This event was run for the first time last year and was very well received. This year we’ve compressed the event to one day, covering just the key issues in intensive, practical sessions by legal advisers who are leading lights in this field.

Michael Wigley will chair the conference, and speakers from Wigely & Company will cover the following topics:

10.10: Update on the Mandatory Procurement Rules - Michael Wigley

  • Why they’re there and what they’re trying to achieve;
  • Interpretations of the Rules: what is their scope?;
  • The impact – how government departments should set up panel provider agreements and selected provider arrangements;
  • Pitfalls: what to look out for; and
  • Non discrimination, probity and exclusions/exceptions.

13:50  IT Contracts and Service Level Agreements - Stuart van Rij

IT Contracts are high risk and high value.The mandatory procurement rules impact the way all government procurement is run, and nowhere more than in relation to procurement of ICT (information and communications technology).

  • Exploration of the rules;
  • Making use of pre-selected panels of suppliers for routine ICT procurement;
  • How to select a supplier from the panel (no guidance, but MED and OAG guidelines apply);
  • Guidelines for compliance; and
  • Case law/OAG and Ombudsman decisions update.
  • Why they’re there and what they’re trying to achieve;
