“DROP EVERYTHING AND DO-IT-NOW” JOBS – MANAGING PUBLIC SECTOR LEGAL CRISES

Ivan Kwok is the Treasury Solicitor and his reputation as a public sector lawyer is legendary. He will be speaking about the Air NZ/Ansett crisis and Government’s Air New Zealand share purchase around the time of 9/11: how the lawyers handled it and what can be learned from dealing with crises. Ivan did an excellent session on this at the CLANZ conference. There are lessons from this on how to approach public sector legal work generally, including what really matters and what doesn’t.

LIFE AS A PUBLIC SECTOR “SOLE PRACTITIONER”

Nerissa Barber is the only lawyer at Culture and Heritage. This is a new position. She’ll talk among other things about establishing a new position in her Ministry, working in a sole charge role, and the transition from SSC, the Scampi inquiry, and then to her new job.

THERE IS LIFE OUTSIDE THE LAW!

Julia Coleman (nee Black) has left Crown Law (before then, Russell McVeagh) to train to be an Anglican Minister. There is a life outside the law! Julia will talk about her experiences and why she chose to make all these changes.
