Employee Privacy, Employer Policy: How do we get out of the impasse?

Company policies make it clear that the computer and network are company property and that we shouldn’t expect privacy there. Yet there is often a disconnect between what companies say and what they do along with what employees expect of privacy and how they act. People are also increasingly living their personal lives online and as the boundaries of the electronic workplace extend beyond the cubicle, desk or office to coffee shops, hotel rooms, the back of a taxis and home, are privacy initiatives destined to be at loggerheads with the security goals of organisations? This session will discuss:
• The fundamental differences and inherent tensions between privacy and security in the online world
• Do I have a reasonable expectation of privacy in the workplace?
• How much are individuals willing to give up and what would have to happen for the two sides in the privacy/security debate to reconcile?
